BMT Reliability Consultants has been invited by BAE Systems to provide expert added value services to the Design Evolution Team (DET). The DET is jointly lead by BAE Systems and Babcock Marine, who have significant experience in the design, build and support of Submarines and their Combat Systems. The DET takes forward knowledge and experience gained from a number of recent initiatives focused on minimising the Whole Life Costs of Submarine Combat Systems. Some of the key attributes of the DET are, the ability to:
- Develop strong rainbow teams, pooling best practice and experience
- Engage with new suppliers as they join the Submarine community
- Focus the ownership of the design and evolution of
- Reduce Combat System WLC's
- Examine Combat System design and architecture at the earliest opportunity
- Design commonality across combat systems for the flotilla
- Pool knowledge across a wide stakeholder community - MoD, Science Innovation and Technology, Industry and Academia
BMT is well placed to provide a wide range of services to the DET; it will draw upon its many years of experience working on UK Royal Navy Submarine platform and Combat System programmes. BMT staff have supported both the MoD in setting requirements for Submarine equipments and systems; it has also provided support to many equipment and platform projects - supporting Defence Contractors to develop and deliver cost effective supportable capability. In these roles BMT has gained extensive experience in the use of Reliable and Supportable COTS hardware, the use of Open Systems Architectures and also has been involved in providing advice to the MoD's DeRSCI and ARCI initiatives. BMT also provides services to the MoD throughout Submarine in-service phases looking at the achievements of Sub-systems, systems and whole boats against the Key User Requirements set in support contracts.
